A communications provider had a legal dispute with US authorities over a money laundering case involving cryptocurrency. The Federal Court incited Sky Global to be suspected of assisting criminal organizations in laundering millions of dollars in cryptocurrency.
Sky Global is also accused of remotely destroying equipment to avoid stuck
According to the filing, the Southern District of California stated that the Canadian company has been selling encryption equipment, allegedly to promote drug trafficking to Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.
The court held that Sky Global obstructed justice by “creating, maintaining and controlling” a system. Once the authorities arrive at the scene to seize the equipment, the company will remotely delete evidence of illegal activities.
In addition, law enforcement also accused the Canadian telecommunications provider of using its infrastructure for the following purposes:
In order to avoid money laundering, communicating with encrypted devices and transferring illegally obtained funds into encrypted currencies (especially Bitcoin) and other means to detect their illegal behavior.
Allegedly, Sky Global charges customers approximately $1,200-$1,200 for subscription fees every six months.
The authorities also commented that the company uses Bitcoin (BTC) on client websites “to promote illegal transactions”, “to protect the anonymity of members, and to facilitate members’ improper money laundering.”
The CEO says the US government will kill anyone who opposes “unprovoked surveillance”
In response to the prosecution, Jean-François Eap, CEO of Sky Global, rejected the accusations made by the US authorities and issued the following statement:
So far, the relevant authorities have not notified us of any proceedings reported by the media. Just as I have been following media reports for the past week, I am deeply saddened that I have seen far-reaching reports that can only be described as an erosion of privacy.
Eap added, “Sky Global was not created to prevent police from monitoring criminal organizations; it exists to prevent anyone from monitoring and monitoring the global community.”
He said: “The prosecution of myself in the United States is an example of the police. The government tries to condemn anyone who opposes unwarranted surveillance.”
