Social media giant Twitter launched the “Milk Tea Alliance” emoji on Thursday, a global online democracy movement that has united anti-Beijing activists in Hong Kong and Taiwan with protesters in Thailand, Myanmar and other regions.
The activists welcomed the announcement of emojis on the first anniversary of the movement. The emoji is a white cup, expressed in three colors, representing milk tea from Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
After Chinese nationalists accused a young Thai actor and his girlfriend of supporting independent democracy in Hong Kong and Taiwan, a milk tea alliance sparked a milk tea alliance.

After the military coup in Myanmar, the use of tags reached its peak again in February, and protesters who used tags gathered regional support.
Twitter said in a statement: “In the past year, we have seen more than 11 million tweets with the hashtag #MilkTeaAlliance,” Twitter pushed it to Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan’s hot trends on Thursday.
Previously, Twitter launched emojis for the #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter campaigns.
Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal, a well-known activist in Thailand, said that Twitter emojis show global popularity and give greater credibility to the youth movement, one of the main voices of the alliance.
Netivite told Reuters: “This is important because it shows that young people are fighting for democracy, the world is with them, and they are making an impact.” “This shows that online activism can develop further.”
James Buchanan, a lecturer at the School of International Studies at Mahidol University in Bangkok, said that Twitter is blocked in China and its apparent support for Beijing’s backlash seems unlikely to harm its business.
He said: “By attracting young people who are open to young Asians, Twitter can bring many benefits.”
