Commercial and consumer property and casualty reinsurance provider Sompo has announced the appointment of Soo Wai Har as chief executive officer (CEO) of its Malaysian property and casualty insurance business, Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad, effective April 1, 2026.
She succeeds Tan Sek Kee, who is retiring after serving as CEO since 2017. During his tenure, Tan Sik Kee played a key role in strengthening Sompo’s business in Malaysia over the past nine years. He will continue to support the company until June 2026 to facilitate a smooth leadership transition.
With over three decades of experience in the insurance industry, Soo brings extensive expertise and strong industry relationships gained from working with global insurance companies.
In her new role, she will focus on improving Berjaya Sompo’s long-term profitability, expanding its market position and strengthening its capabilities in the Asia Pacific region, while contributing to broader regional growth and operating results.
Soo will be based in Kuala Lumpur and report to Kenneth Reilly, CEO Asia Pacific Insurance. She is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
