Shoaib Akhtar is keeping a close eye on the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). The former Pakistan cricket player himself starred in the T20 cricket franchise league for the Kolkata Cavaliers in the first few seasons. And now, he has chosen his all-time IPL XI. The XI has four Indians, three from the West Indies and one from Sri Lanka, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. In the XI, 6 are currently playing IPL 2022.
“My No. 1 pick is Chris Gayle. He’s a disruptive hitter, and my No. 2 pick is Rohit Sharma. He’s a very good player,” A Hertal said in the Sportskeeda Cricket video.
However, neither Kohli nor Sharma would be Akhtar’s choice to captain. He selected Ab De Villiers, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
He then revealed his captain selection. “At No. 7, I would pick MS Dhoni. He’s a finisher, he’s a tough hitter. He’s also the captain. He’s the leader of the team,” Akhtar said.
He picked Harbhajan Singh and Rashid Khan as his two spinners, while Lasith Malinga and Brett Lee were his two walker options.
Akhtar recently said he wants Umran Malik to break the record for the fastest pitch (161.3 km/h) in bowling, adding that Umran needs to stay away from injuries
“I want to see him have a long career. A few days ago, someone congratulated me because I’ve passed 20 years and no one can break the record. But I said, ‘There must be someone who can break this record’. I will be happy if Umran breaks my record. But he needs to make sure he doesn’t get hurt in the process. I would like to see him play for a long time without injury,” Akhtar said in an interaction on Sportskeeda.
