India-focused reinsurance platform Niyam Group has announced the appointment of Ruchi Sheth as Director Marine & Energy.
Sheth brings over 23 years of experience in the general insurance sector to her new role, combining deep underwriting expertise in marine and energy with strong commercial acumen.
The executive will lead Niyam Syndicate 2047’s marine and energy portfolio, with a focus on supporting the deployment of specialty marine and complex risks within India.
Through Niyam’s Insurance Interim Office (IIO) in GIFT City, the company’s clients will have local access to Lloyd’s security, underwriting expertise and global capabilities.
In addition, Sheth was responsible for building Niyam’s global reinsurance underwriting capabilities in the high-growth markets of Asia and Africa.
Sheth commented: “Trade, shipping and energy are the growth drivers driving the country forward and today, the wave of transformation has never been more promising. Lloyd’s is a global leader in marine (re)insurance and we are bringing this expertise and capabilities to India at a critical time in its development journey. Being part of the Niyam Group in this evolving landscape fills me with new purpose, energy and enthusiasm for the future.”
The executive joined Niyam from Tata AIG General Insurance Company Limited for eight years as Vice President, Marine Insurance.
Her extensive career also includes stints with other top Indian insurance companies including ICICI Lombard and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance (a joint venture between Bajaj Finserv Limited and Allianz SE).
“At Niyam, we are building a business based on discipline, long-term thinking and underwriting excellence. Ruchi’s experience and values are highly aligned with this ambition,” a Niyam spokesperson said.
Niyam Group was officially launched in January 2026 and was founded by insurance veteran Bobby Swarup. The platform established Niyam Syndicate 2047 in GIFT City and officially started underwriting on April 1, 2026.
