South Korean publisher Krafton announced Battlegrounds Mobile India as the Indian version of PUBG Mobile. Last September, the government banned the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile. The new game will carry a logo with an Indian tri-color theme to attract mobile gamers in the country and will be pre-registered before the official launch in India.
The announcement of the ban gave those who were disappointed had reason to be happy. Because they can’t keep their cool to play their favorite games, users start to share their excitement with a large number of memes on social media.
Last year, the government banned 118 China-related applications, including PUBG Mobile. It said that the actions taken against these apps were the result of many complaints that they had stolen user data and transferred it illegally to servers located abroad. After the ban, PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of Krafton, obtained the publishing and distribution rights of PUBG Mobile from the Chinese company Tencent Games.
Now, Krafton claims that its new game will comply with all applicable Indian laws and regulations, involving player data collection and storage. It said that it will work with partners to establish an e-sports ecosystem in India, starting with a series of in-game activities aimed at India at launch.
The South Korean company tried to persuade the Indian government to lift the ban imposed on PUBG Mobile last September, including plans to localize data and establish a dedicated team of at least 100 people in India.
