The crazy release of the 2008 movie “Cloverfield” is in a sequel. The upcoming film is in the work of producer JJ Abrams, who invited the rising British scribe Joe Barton to write the script.
According to Variety, Abrams will produce a sequel with Hannah Minghella, the head of Bad Robot. The original Cloverfield used the discovery footnote format that has been popular for many years, and the new section will abandon this style.
Cloverfield is a monster movie that follows a group of New Yorkers in their 20s who try to cross the city during an attack by a giant monster. Actors include Lizzy Caplan and TJ Miller. Production was kept secret, and it sparked strong speculation, successfully causing a sensation for low budget projects. Abrams sees it as a tribute to the classic Godzilla movie.
The 2008 monster movie became a hit, with global box office revenue of $172 million, and it was the launch pad of the Cloverfield universe, which included 10 Cloverfield Lane released in 2016 and The Cloverfield Paradox premiered on Netflix in 2018.
These films were originally developed as separate films, but were folded under Cloverfield’s banner, linking them with science fiction and monster themes. Cloverfield also helped launch the directorship of Matt Reeves, the current Batman (The Batman). However, Reeves is not involved in the upcoming sequel.
