OpenAI approves first insurer-built AI app on ChatGPT

OpenAI has approved an insurance provider’s first AI application on ChatGPT, developed by Tuio, one of Spain’s leading digital insurance companies, and powered by WaniWani’s AI distribution infrastructure, enabling users to receive personalized home insurance quotes entirely in conversation and quickly purchase a policy.

Citing a 2025 Express Legal Funding study, OpenAI found that 33% of U.S. adults already use ChatGPT to seek financial advice.

The company continued: “Until today, AI could only provide generic answers extracted from static web content. It could not provide real prices to real people or businesses. For the first time, insurance providers can distribute their products and provide quotes directly within an AI platform, where hundreds of millions of insurance buyers already conduct research.

“For a business or consumer, purchasing insurance requires filling out forms, making phone calls, or going through different layers of intermediaries. Artificial intelligence is now changing that by removing these friction points.”

OpenAI explained that Tuio’s AI application can understand the user’s intent, gather the right information through natural conversations, and return accurate personalized quotes from regulated operators in real time without leaving the AI interface.

“Tuio’s app is just the beginning. Last week, US insurance aggregator Insurify’s app also received OpenAI approval. WaniWani announced that a dozen more insurance AI apps (including several customers and partners in North America and Europe) are in the process of approval and expected to go live in the coming weeks,” OpenAI added.

The technology isn’t limited to OpenAI. Anthropic’s Claude also features AI applications built on the same infrastructure and standards, while Google’s Gemini is expected to release its own standards for third-party applications in the coming months. The shift to agent-to-agent distribution is becoming an industry-wide reality.

Juan García, co-founder and CEO of Tuio, commented: “We are leveraging AI heavily to improve our insurance experience and increase operational efficiency. As the first provider on ChatGPT, we are able to convert new customers as soon as we discover them.”

Raphael Vullierme, co-founder of WaniWani, said: “I ran an insurance company for almost ten years and was in the insurance value chain. I can foresee how artificial intelligence will reshape distribution. Today is day zero of this transformation.

“For the first time, AI can access real quotes, quote on behalf of buyers, and compare coverage in real time. Every insurance company will be affected, whether they have built an AI application or not.”
