Leaked videos suggest that Tencent may be working on a new NFS racing game for Android and iOS smartphones with a map similar to the one in Need for Speed Heat. There’s no word from EA or Tencent on plans for an upcoming mobile racing game.
On Wednesday, Reddit user u/Clxbsport shared a leaked video purporting to be from the upcoming Need for Speed game for smartphones. The post, titled “Need for Speed 2022 (Tencent) Gameplay Leaked,” hints that the mobile game may be developed by the Chinese giant, which has worked on Call of Duty: Mobile, Honor of Kings and Pokémon United. .
The NFS Mobile video shared on Reddit showcases 47 seconds of gameplay with both cars and gives gamers an idea of what the game looks like during the day and night. According to the comments on the post by user u/NFSLYY, there are currently three cars in the game – the McLaren F1, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJR and the Lamborghini Gallardo. Some games appear to have on-screen text in Chinese.
The Redditor also stated that the upcoming Need for Speed smartphone game was created using Unreal Engine 4 and offers similar processing as the canceled Need for Speed: Edge, with a similar drift boost. Meanwhile, the map is said to be similar to the one in Need for Speed: Heat – which may change as the game progresses. According to a Reddit user, there is currently no story or police in the game.
As mentioned, neither EA Games nor Tencent have revealed anything about the upcoming smartphone game. However, EA and Criterion have confirmed that they are working on a new Need for Speed game for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, which was announced during the November 2020 earnings call. It was originally slated for a late 2021 release, but possibly due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other internal challenges, the as-yet-untitled NFS game is expected to launch later this year.
