Thanks to NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers can now see galaxies of all shapes and sizes from nearly every angle. Fascinating views of galaxies from the side reveal a dizzying part of the universe. One such galaxy is Little Sombrero, also known as NGC 7814 or Caldwell 43. The Hubble Space Telescope a photo of the galaxy on its official Instagram handle. Against the backdrop of more galaxies, Little Sombrero has a bright central bulge, a thin disk of dust, and a glowing halo of gas and stars that extends into space.

The Hubble Space Telescope captioned the image, “Salute to you, Little Sombrero Galaxy! This beautiful galaxy, also known as NGC 7814, brightly in Hubble’s new horizons.”

It has also been pointed out that NGC 7814 is about 40 million light-years from Earth and 80,000 light-years wide, making it billions of years old.

In the image, we can see that the edge galaxy has a distinct dust lane from the upper right to the middle left. The scene is also dotted with many galaxies.

In a blog post, NASA said the straw hat image is a composite of visible-light and infrared observations taken by the Hubble Advanced Camera for the Survey in 2006. These observations are intended to help astronomers study the galaxy’s stellar population and shed light on the evolution of this and other similar galaxies.

A few years ago, NASA said in another blog post that NGC 7814 has a bright central bulge and a glowing halo of gas that extends into space. The dusty spiral arms are streaked with black. They’re made of a dusty material that absorbs and blocks light from the center of the galaxy.

The dusty spiral is named after the larger-looking Sombrero Galaxy, which looks like a wide-brimmed Mexican hat. The Sombrero Galaxy is 28 million light-years away and is larger than the Little Sombrero Galaxy from the edges. Although they are almost the same size, the straw hat looks bigger because it is closer.
