Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd. (NewRe), a subsidiary of Munich Re Group, announced the appointment of Dr. Sascha Brehm to its Board of Directors, effective January 16, 2026.

Brehm succeeds Markus Hummel, who resigned after four years on the board to become CEO of MEAG, the asset management arm of Munich Re.

Brehm has over 15 years of experience in the reinsurance industry and has a proven track record in risk management and accounting.

He has been with Munich Re for nearly 17 years, holding various senior leadership roles, most recently as Group Chief Risk Officer.

Prior to this, he served as Senior Executive Manager at Munich Re – Global Owner of Accounting Processes/Digitalization/Automation.

Claudia Strametz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “We say farewell to Markus Hummel and are deeply grateful for the outstanding contributions and international risk management expertise he brought to NewRe during his tenure. His contributions were instrumental in supporting the company’s strong growth. We are pleased to welcome Sascha Brehm as his successor, who is extremely qualified to carry on and build on this legacy.”

NewRe CEO Thomas Braune added: “We very much look forward to Mr. Brehm’s valuable contributions to our Board of Directors. His solid business acumen, financial leadership and deep understanding of the reinsurance industry will be a strong complement to the existing Board and will further strengthen NewRe’s governance as we pursue our long-term strategic goals.”
