Bermuda-based Mosaic Insurance has announced excess casualty insurance as its eighth global product line and appointed April Andruczyk as head of Bermuda excess casualty insurance to lead the new division.
The agency, which begins underwriting immediately, will support large corporate and multinational clients facing rising liability costs, particularly in the North American market.
In addition to the appointment of Andruczyk of United World Insurance Bermuda, Mosaic has hired two other Bermuda specialist underwriters, Andrew Watson and Chris Abraham, as well as UK consultant Mike Warwicker and junior underwriter Skyler Powell.
Andruczyk brings nearly three decades of underwriting and leadership experience to her new role, most recently as vice president of general casualty at United World Insurance Company of Bermuda. Earlier in her career, Andruczyk spent 18 years at ACE Bermuda (now Chubb), where she managed its excess liability division. She began her career at Legacy Chubb Corporation in New York, where she held senior underwriting positions.
Watson brings two decades of experience to Mosaic, most recently as senior underwriter for excess casualty at AIG, and previously worked at ACE/Chubb, where he began his career in London as a reinsurance broker in JLT Re’s non-maritime treaty team.
Like Watson, Abraham is a Bermudian and has worked in the Bermuda market for more than 12 years, starting his career at Integro Insurance Brokers before joining Chubb in 2020.
Warwicker most recently served as Chubb Bermuda’s senior vice president and head of excess liability and has more than four decades of experience specializing in excess casualties in the U.S., London and Bermuda markets.
Powell, also a Bermudian, interned with Mosaic, began her underwriting career in the insurer’s financial institutions division in London, and now returns to Bermuda in her new role.
The new facility will serve a variety of industry sectors, including transportation, consumer products, industrial manufacturing, utilities, construction, energy, hospitality, real estate and life sciences. Mosaic’s Bermuda platform is part of the company’s global agent network, which leverages Mosaic Syndicate 1609 and is supported by syndicated partners to provide up to $10 million of capacity per risk.
Mark Wheeler, co-chief executive officer of Mosaic, said: “We are delighted that April will drive our new business forward. This strategic expansion comes at a time when the excess casualty market faces continued challenges and the need for reliable capacity remains high. Our approach is well thought out and, like all of our product lines, leverages the best talent – this time in complex excess casualties. We strongly expect this product to become an important line of business for us.”
Toby Smith, CEO of Mosaic Americas, commented: “April is a well-respected market leader with deep technical knowledge and enduring broker and client relationships. We are also pleased to welcome Andrew and Chris, who together, with the support of Mike, bring years of experience and market insight to support our team in building this new product line. There are exciting opportunities ahead, and we look forward to delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of this dynamic market.”
“I am delighted to be joining Mosaic at such a critical time for the industry. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to work with outstanding professionals and contribute to a company that is well positioned to meet the needs of today’s complex casualty landscape,” said Andruczyk.
