Global reinsurer Munich Re has announced the appointment of Michaela Hannemann as head of non-life insurance in Australia, effective from 1 May 2026.
Hannemann will be based in Sydney and report to Scott Hawkins, Managing Director of Munich Re Australia.
She succeeds Anja Linsmaier, who will return to Munich Re’s German headquarters to assume a new leadership role.
Hawkins said: “We would like to sincerely thank Anja Linsmaier for her outstanding leadership of our Australian non-life business over the past four years.
“I am pleased that we have found Michaela Hannemann’s successor and I believe her extensive leadership skills, strong international background and broad technology experience are a perfect fit for our business.”
Hannemann brings more than 20 years of international insurance and reinsurance experience, deep expertise in underwriting and account management, and a strong, people-focused leadership style.
The executive currently serves as Chief Underwriting Officer Casualty and Head of Corporate Underwriting Casualty, Aviation, Marine and Legal, based in Munich.
She started her career with Munich Re in 2021 as Regional Head Casualty Treaty Underwriting for Japan, Korea, India and South East Asia, operating out of Singapore.
Prior to joining the reinsurer, she gained extensive experience at Gen Re, holding a variety of underwriting and account management roles in various international markets.
Commenting on her appointment, Hannemann said: “I am delighted to be joining Munich Re’s Australian business as Head of Australia Non-Life. In recent years I have placed great emphasis on working with colleagues in Asia Pacific and Europe and I look forward to leveraging this experience alongside our talented local teams to serve Munich Re’s clients in this strategically important market.”
