Kevin Rethual has been appointed CEO of Re Retakaful in Munich, effective June 1, 2026.
In his new role, Rethual will be based in Malaysia and report to Owais Ansari, Munich Re’s head of reinsurance for the MEA region.
He succeeds Serena Thio, who played a key role in shaping Munich Re Insurance by strengthening its technical credibility, expanding its market position and building a strong, values-oriented team.
Thio will serve as Senior Advisor from June 1 to December 31, 2026, before retiring from Munich Re at the end of the year.
Rethual joined Munich Re Retakaful in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 as Head of Pricing and was promoted to Chief Commercial Officer in 2024.
Prior to joining Munich Re, he worked for Sun Life Malaysia for more than ten years, most recently as Head of Pricing.
