Markel Insurance, the insurance business of Markel Group Inc., has appointed James Howell as senior war and terrorism underwriter, effective immediately.
Howell has nearly a decade of expertise in terrorism underwriting, most recently as senior underwriter on terrorism and political violence at AXIS Capital.
Prior to joining AXIS, he spent two years as a Risk Analyst at Argenta Group, working within the Terrorism and Cargo & Coins sub-teams, and began his career in the Lloyd’s Market.
In his new role at Markel, Howell will be responsible for maintaining and developing underwriting policies and prime broker relationships.
He will work with the organization’s administration, claims, actuarial and product development departments to ensure clients continue to receive “best-in-class” insurance coverage, while driving further profitable growth in the war and terrorism portfolio, according to the company.
Howell will also reportedly be based in London to direct and lead underwriters’ war and terrorism product line-specific training.
Howell will report to Markle International Head of Counterterrorism in London Chloe Gordge commented: “We are delighted to welcome James to our War and Terrorism team in London.
