Instagram creates a market to connect brands and influencers; it will help creators get revenue from recommendations

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Tuesday that the company will start with Instagram to build new features that will allow content creators to make money by recommending products and markets on the app to help brands connect with influencers .

In the live video, Zuckerberg talked with Facebook-owned Instagram chief Adam Mosseri (Adam Mosseri), also said that social networks will open “creator shops” driven by e-commerce.

These announcements are part of Facebook’s efforts to serve the “creator economy” in which social media influencers, journalists and others make money directly from their fans on platforms such as Clubclub, Patreon, Substack and YouTube.

Zuckerberg said that Facebook will establish a membership program to allow creators to get a certain amount of sales revenue from the products they recommend.

A Facebook spokesperson declined to disclose the creator’s income or the timetable for launching these features.

Mosseri said that new markets that connect creators and brands will help more mid-sized users earn income. In the creator economy, people are increasingly concerned about the income gap. Top social media figures often earn excess income, but smaller creators may struggle to make a living.

Mosseri said: “If we can help with matchmaking, we can help more money be invested in smaller creators who can do a good job for the brand.”

These announcements are another effort to catch up with the popular short video app TikTok, which has already tested e-commerce features such as online shopping. Last year, Instagram launched TikTok’s direct competitor Reels.

Facebook said last month that it will allow creators to earn advertising revenue from videos in just one minute and expand its “star” virtual currency, which people can gift to their favorite content creators.
