Pinion Insurance, a new technology-based specialist insurance company, has announced the appointment of Chris Jones as Group Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.
Jones is now a member of the founding leadership team consisting of chief executive Neil McConachie, group chief underwriting officer Philip Vandoninck and group chief technology officer Laura Baird.
He also becomes a member of Pinion’s executive committee and will be based in London.
Jones has more than thirty years’ experience in finance and accounting and joins Pinion from Aspen Insurance Group, where he served as UK chief financial officer.
Prior to that, he held financial leadership positions at Beazley Furlonge and Liberty Syndicates. He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Commenting on Jones’ appointment, McConachie said: “Chris is an excellent addition to Pinion’s founding management team. He has enjoyed a distinguished career in the insurance industry and his expertise will be invaluable as we expand our business.”
Jones said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join an innovative business like Pinion which will use modern technology to improve operational efficiency. We have strong financial backing and I look forward to working with Neil, Philip and Laura.”
The appointment follows the appointment last month of Kyle Selvig as chief U.S. underwriting officer.
Pinion begins operations in February 2026. The company was founded in Bermuda and is headquartered in London, with global asset manager Barings committing up to $180 million in preferred shares.
The new insurance company is built on the data-driven foundation of Pinion Risk Consulting (PRC). Pinion will provide underwriting capabilities and proprietary technology-driven underwriting insights to MGAs in the US, UK and Europe.
In addition, the company targets to launch binding operations in the United States in the second quarter of 2026, with underwriting planned in the European Union and the United Kingdom in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
