Howden Re names Tim Radford as Managing Director, Head of Lloyd’s Capital

Howden Re, the reinsurance arm of global brokerage group Howden, has appointed Tim Radford as managing director and head of Lloyd’s Capital, part of the company’s capital solutions platform.

The reinsurance broker said the appointment strengthens its leadership in market capital and investor engagement at Lloyds.

In his role, Redford will play a key role in driving Howden Re’s Lloyd Capital strategy and work across Howden Re Capital Solutions and Howden Capital Markets & Advisory (HCMA).

The broker explained that his role includes linking Lloyds and London market capital with wider institutional and investor capital and ensuring a joined-up, client-led approach across reinsurance, capital solutions and advisory.

Radford began his industry career with reinsurance giant Swiss Re in 2013 as property treaty underwriter in the UK, Lloyd’s and Nordic regions. Thereafter, he joined Securis Investment Partners as an analyst specializing in Lloyd’s, specialty reinsurance and retrocession, and later worked in investment origination with a focus on life ILS.

Redford joined Howden Re in 2023 after two years at Aon as a broker focused on the Lloyd’s market, focusing on Lloyd’s funds, legacy solutions and structured reinsurance.

Bradley Maltese, chief executive of global specialist insurance at Howden Re, commented on the appointment: “Lloyd’s remains an important part of the global specialist insurance market. This appointment reflects our continued investment in market-leading expertise and ensures we are able to support clients, carriers and investors as Lloyd’s capital dynamics continue to evolve.”

Jarad Madea, chief executive of HCMA, added: “Our clients and investors find great value in Howden App’s integrated approach to reinsurance expertise, capital solutions and advisory. Tim’s appointment strengthens the collaboration between HCMA and Howden Re, further enhancing our industry-leading expertise and ability to provide joint advice and execution within the Lloyd’s ecosystem, which continues to generate significant investor interest.”

The appointment follows a period of growth for Howden Re’s capital solutions platform, with successful new Lloyds syndicate launches and capital raises.

Led by Vijay Mavani, Managing Director, Capital Solutions, the unit builds bespoke solutions that connect risk to capital and support clients as they navigate increasingly complex balance sheet and market challenges. In April this year, the broker appointed Grace Kavanagh as director of capital solutions.
