DigiLocker was created by the Electronics and IT Department (MeitY) of Digital India Corporation (DIC) and is used as a cloud storage service for government-issued documents. It uses your Aadhaar card as an identification, and allows you to digitize documents and provide them to you whenever you can connect to the Internet. These digitized documents are considered the same as the original documents and are accepted by railways, traffic police and recent passport services. Therefore, we have assembled a step-by-step guide on how to upload documents to DigiLocker.

DigiLocker can have signed documents and uploaded documents. A signed document is an electronic document issued by a government agency to an individual directly from the original source. These documents are stored in the “Published Documents” section in the form of URLs. As the name suggests, the uploaded document is the document uploaded by the individual to the DigiLocker account. These files can include .pdf, .jpeg and .png files that are less than 10MB in size.
