Permanent account or PAN card is an important document in India. You will need it to file an income tax return to make the payment more than Rs. 50,000 and even open a bank account. The PAN card is a valid identity certificate for India and can be issued to Indian citizens (including minors), non-resident Indians (NRI) and even foreign citizens. These steps only apply to individuals and do not apply to other categories that can issue PAN cards, such as individual associations, individual groups, companies, trusts, limited liability partnerships, corporations, governments, independent Hindu families, man-made judicial persons or local authorities.

Documents required to apply for PAN card online

Indian citizens need three types of documents to apply for a PAN card. These are proof of identity, proof of age and proof of date of birth.

  1. Identity document (one of the following):

    • Photo ID of the elector
    • Distribution card with applicant’s photo
    • passport

    • business license
    • Aadhaar card issued by India’s unique identity certification authority
    • Photo ID issued by the central government or state government or public sector
    • Pension card with applicant’s photo
    • Central Government Health Plan Card or Veterans Health Payment Plan Photo Card
    • The original identity certificate, signed by a member of Congress, a member of the Legislative Council, a municipal member or a member of the Gazette (depending on the situation)
    • The original bank certificate (together with the name and stamp of the issuer) on the letterhead of the branch, which should include the photo and bank account number of the applicant, properly certified

How much does it cost to apply for a PAN card online

For Indian citizens, the fee for applying for a new PAN card is Rs. 116 (plus online payment fees or around 5 rupees). The cost is Rs. 1,020 foreign citizens (online payment fee is about 5 rupees).

How to apply for PAN card online

Please follow the steps below to apply for PAN card online in India:

  1. You can apply for a PAN card online through the NSDL or UTITSL website. Both are authorized to issue PAN cards in India. In this tutorial, we will show you how to apply for a PAN card through the NSDL website.

  2. On the page linked in the previous step, you will see a titled Online PAN application.under application type select New PAN-Indian Citizen (Form 49A).If you are a foreigner, please select New PAN-Foreign Citizens (49AA Form).

  3. Select the desired PAN card category.For most people, this will be personal.

  4. Now fill in your personal details, such as name, date of birth, mobile phone number, etc., enter the verification code and click submit.

  5. Now you have three options-authentication through Aadhaar to avoid sending any documents, scan documents and upload them via electronic signature, or submit documents in person.

  6. We chose Aadhaar for identity verification because it only requires OTP and payment. If you do not want to use this option, the other two steps are similar except for the part where the document must be sent.

  7. Enter all the details requested on the screen, such as Aadhaar number (optional), and click next.

  8. This step requires you to fill in your name, birthday, address, etc.Then click next.

  9. Now, you will hit the banana peel of the AO code (Assessor Code). This looks complicated, but it’s actually very simple. Simply select one of the four options from the top-Indian citizen, NRI and foreign citizen, defense employee or government category.

  10. Then in Choose AO code, Select your state and area of ​​residence. Wait a few seconds and you will see the complete AO code list in the box below. Scroll carefully and find the category that suits you best. There are different categories of companies, non-salaried persons, government employees, private sector employees, etc. If you do not know which category you belong to, please contact a chartered accountant. Click the correct AO code and it will be automatically filled in the above form.Please click next.

  11. Select the proof of age and residence you submitted from the drop-down menu, fill in the required details, and click submit.

  12. You will now be redirected to the payment page where you can choose one of many common online payment methods. The fee for Indian citizens to apply for a PAN card is Rs. 115.90 includes all taxes and fees. For this, you need to pay a small fee as an online payment fee, so the total is about Rs. 120.

  13. After payment, you will be asked to verify your identity through Aadhaar OTP, or submit a document through an electronic signature, or actually send the document to NSDL. You will also receive an email confirmation from NSDL about your application, and once the application is processed, you will be provided with a PAN card.
