Google has introduced a new feature on Gmail that will allow users to pin specific Google chat conversations. You can also pin “Room” at the top of the list. The conversation or meeting room will be pinned to the top of the Gmail list view, and pinned messages can be accessed from the left navigation menu. The feature has begun to be rolled out to eligible users and will be made public to everyone within a few days. It is mainly for Google Workspace customers.
Fixed conversations will help users keep track of important updates, as conversations will be displayed at the top of the “chat” list. According to Google, this will make them faster and easier to find. A red dot will appear next to fixed conversations with unread messages on the integrated Gmail. To pin a conversation, navigate to the conversation under “Chat” or “Room”. Click More>Fix. To unpin a conversation, follow the same steps and click Unpin.
The fixed conversation feature will be available on Android and iOS devices and the web. Users with the following plans can use it: Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education and Nonprofits customers.
Google Chat is replacing the classic Hangouts on Gmail. The update has already been launched, and it is expected that all eligible users will transition in the first half of next year. Although Google Chat will retain some Hangouts features, such as direct and group messaging, Google said it will abandon some other features.
