Google has added a new travel tool to its search engine that can display COVID-19-related recommendations related to the destination. Google said that the number of search terms among users such as “travel restrictions” and “travel locations” has increased, which is why these new tools are being added. The discovery tool also has its own label on google.com/travel, and has been redesigned to display more destinations, destination filters, travel recommendations or restrictions, and more useful information. Google has also made some updates to Google Maps on the desktop to help with travel planning.

In its blog, Google detailed new travel tools for users who plan to travel. The report pointed out that with the increasing popularity of vaccines, search terms such as “travel restrictions” for countries (regions) and “travel locations” have also increased. In order to help these potential travelers, whether the destination requires quarantine at the destination or the travelers need to provide a vaccination certificate, Google’s new travel tool will now display travel recommendations or restrictions related to COVID-19.

Travelers can receive notifications about travel inquiries or restriction updates via email. This will tell you whether the restriction is cancelled or reduced. This feature is available in the United States.

In addition, the “Browse” tab has been updated and its own page is available on google.com/travel. Now, it will display more destinations, smaller cities, national parks, and destination filters to narrow down the destinations based on your interests. Travelers can also use information such as hotels, things to do, and the best time to visit.

The blog also pointed out that the desktop version of Google Maps will now show different types of places you can stop during the trip, such as hotels, parks, campgrounds, and rest stops. When you select the start and end points, these stops on the way will be displayed at the top of the map, and you can select specific locations to add to your journey. These instructions can then be sent to your mobile phone.
