Italy-based global insurance company Generali has appointed Sun Lei as deputy regional officer for Asia, effective March 9, 2026, based in Hong Kong.
The appointment is in line with the insurer’s aim to capture the region’s long-term potential, drive sustainable growth and expand its presence in key markets across Asia by combining local expertise with global scale.
In his new role, Sun Lei will report to Asia Regional Officer Rob Leonardi and provide strategic and operational oversight for all Generali Group entities in China.
In addition, he will strengthen governance with joint venture partners and key stakeholders, lead regional project initiatives across Asia and play a key role in advancing the insurer’s sustainability agenda.
Sun Lei has more than two decades of leadership experience in the insurance, finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) fields in Asia and Europe. Most recently, he held senior roles in group mergers and acquisitions at Allianz SE, focusing on the Asian market.
Previously, he served as President and CEO of Allianz Life in South Korea, leading the transformation after major mergers and acquisitions, and as Deputy General Manager and Chief Financial Officer of Allianz China Insurance Holdings Co., Ltd., creating China’s first foreign-funded insurance holding company.
