Global insurance brokerage and risk management company Gallagher has announced the appointment of international tax and M&A specialist Adriana Carvalho Assuncao as director of its fast-growing private equity and M&A practice.
Carvalho Assuncao is joining Gallagher’s UK-based global practice team with over a decade of expertise in advising multinational groups on complex cross-border tax matters.
She joins Gallagher from KPMG, where she spent six years in the firm’s U.S. international tax practice in London, most recently as a manager.
In this role, she focused on international tax structuring, M&A transactions and corporate restructurings for European multinational and U.S. corporate clients.
Carvalho Assuncao is a qualified attorney admitted to the Brazilian Bar and holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown Law School in Washington, D.C., with professional experience in buyer and seller U.S. tax due diligence, international tax structuring, and providing legal advice on complex cross-border transactions.
Steve Jones, CEO of UK Private Equity and Transaction Risk, commented: “We are delighted that Adrianna is bringing her extensive experience in international tax and M&A to Gallagher as we continue to build our team of professionals to support private capital clients and corporate transactions.
“Private capital is a huge driver of transformative growth around the world, involving complex transactions that require the best multi-disciplinary thinking and advisory services to maximize transaction value. International tax expertise and expert advice are an important part of client service, and Adrianna’s expertise will be a valuable asset to our UK-based but internationally focused team.”
Giles Hambly, head of UK and Ireland tax insurance, added: “Adriana joining the team continues Gallagher’s commitment to bringing the highest level of tax/legal expertise to our team, as we continue to build on our reputation as a market leader in this area.”
Carvalho Assuncao’s appointment is the latest of several recent tax specialist hires across Europe, signaling Gallagher’s deepening investment in specialist risk expertise to expand solutions for private capital businesses and clients engaged in transactional risk activities.
Last month, M&A tax advisor Tom Hughes joined the EY UK team as director of tax insurance, while Carvalho Assuncao continues to focus on investing in international talent across the global professional services sector to best meet rapidly changing client needs.
