Canadian e-commerce company Shopify said on Tuesday that it will expand its payment method “Shop Pay” for all users who choose to sell products on Facebook and Instagram. This move marks the first time that the feature is available outside of the Shopify platform and will help the company promote the growth of shopping through social media platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company said in a blog post that the option will be available to Shopify merchants selling products in the US via Instagram on Tuesday, and will be launched on Facebook in the coming weeks. Social media shoppers will be able to use Shop Pay with other payment options on Facebook Pay, the social media company’s payment system.

The company said that consumers on Instagram and Facebook will see Shop Pay as a payment method in Facebook Pay through this integration. It stated that Shop Pay will pre-fill user details and use “the most efficient and secure Internet payment method-directly on Instagram and Facebook.” After making a purchase, consumers can also track the order and view the carbon emissions of the purchase. Shopify said that Shop Pay can offset 100% of the delivery emissions for each order.

Carl Rivera, General Manager of Shopify Stores, said: “People embrace social platforms not only for connection, but also for business. “The first time Shop Pay is offered outside of Shopify means that more shoppers can use the fastest and best checkout on the Internet. the way. There is more: We will continue to work with Facebook to introduce a large number of Shopify services and products to these platforms to make social sales better. “
