Specialist insurance provider Direct Commercial Limited (DCL) has appointed Steve Knights as new business underwriter in the London market, effective from 9 December 2025.

He will join the new business team based out of the firm’s Lime Street offices in London. Knight brings extensive experience from his previous role at Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe (AND-E), with a strong background in underwriting and broking in the London and wholesale insurance markets.

His appointment underlines DCL’s continued commitment to strengthening its wholesale capabilities while complementing the company’s recent retail initiatives.

In his new role, Knights will focus on underwriting London market and wholesale risks, working closely with brokers to develop business, determine pricing, negotiate terms and deliver solutions consistent with DCL’s risk appetite. He will also support the new business team to ensure efficient placement and a high level of service to brokers.

This strategic addition reinforces DCL’s goal to expand its presence in the wholesale market and provide experienced underwriting support to brokers alongside its retail operations.

Joe Hantson, deputy chief executive of Direct Commercial, said: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to the DCL team. Steve’s in-depth knowledge of the London market, underwriting discipline and experience with brokers make him a perfect fit for our wholesale business. This is a clear signal that while we continue to grow our retail business, we are equally committed to delivering excellence to brokers in the wholesale space.”

Knights added: “I am delighted to be joining DCL at a time when it is expanding its retail and wholesale capabilities. I look forward to working with Lime Street’s new business team to deliver strong, competitive solutions to brokers and help DCL build a wholesale product that truly reflects the business needs and standards of the London market.”
