“Cyberpunk 2077” is one of the most anticipated games of 2020, and it turns out that it is also one of the most overhyped games of 2020, which is the right way to end the year. Since the award-winning action RPG role-playing game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” in 2015, the first major work of Polish developer CD Projekt Red is almost impossible to play on PlayStation 4 (Slim). It’s like watching low-resolution 360p YouTube videos. Despite the terrible graphics, Cyberpunk 2077 still offers a frame rate, which sometimes feels like a single digit. The voice performance is really good-it’s a pity in the first-person dialogue, because all the expressions of V have her voice (I haven’t played a male role yet, so I can’t guarantee this), you can’t see her The fact of expression-but lost in visual confusion.
If your internet connection is poor, even a very good Netflix series will not be so good. Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 failed in the quality and performance departments, and this is also a starting experience. Every tiny conversation will be interrupted by the loading screen, which lasts at least 20 seconds. 30 seconds scene, then loading screen, 40 seconds scene, loading screen, 25 seconds scene, loading screen. It’s like watching a continuously buffered video. Anyway, what great assets are busy loading? The poor PS4 frame rate of Cyberpunk 2077 in turn affected the gameplay, delaying many in-game actions (such as switching car cameras or accessing mobile phones) for a few seconds. Frankly speaking, the annoying thing is that the game forgets which camera you like to drive.
That’s only half of it.Cyberpunk 2077 is also full error. I have seen floating phones and guns (after installing the first day patch). I encountered an invisible weapon. Your character is holding their hands, just like they are holding a weapon, but there is no weapon in the hand. And I wear invisible clothes, where you select the clothes and apply it, but it is not visible, even if the game shows that you don’t have it, it will make you look naked. The hat I chose will not appear anyway, the game shows that I am bald, and even a bug even brought the hair under the hat. On the one hand, it’s fun, but it’s very, very annoying. Oh, even if the “Hotfix 1.04” released a day after the release is installed, there are many texture pop-ups on PS4.
If this is not enough, Cyberpunk 2077 will usually crash. After spending 15 hours testing the game on my PS4, it went through six times during mission execution (after the first and second days of repair). Sometimes you are afraid that it is about to crash (again), only to realize that it has been temporarily frozen. Rotate the camera with the right joystick, and you will definitely see the camera hanging for half of the time. During the review process, I have never suffered so many game crashes. If I pay for Cyberpunk 2077, I need a refund from CD Projekt Red. And it is already issuing refunds, apologize The game was not shown on PS4 or Xbox One before it was released on Monday. If it does show the game, then Cyberpunk 2077 will certainly not reach its predetermined record.
This is also the reason why (highly certain) the PC version based on Cyberpunk 2077 was reviewed early, because no console review code was provided. I only received the PS4 code eight hours before the release. And I had to spend a lot of time downloading games. 100GB on PS4. Strangely, there is 60GB of storage space on Xbox Series X, and I only got the code on Monday four days after launch.
Welcome to night city
Cyberpunk 2077 follows a mercenary named V. You can choose to play the role of female (Cherami Leigh) or male (Gavin Drea). If you keep the nudity option turned on, for some reason, the developer also decided that the character creation process should allow you to customize your genitals. There are two types and three sizes of penis, but there is only one vagina. You can also choose a lifestyle: Nomad, Streetkid or Corpo. You will define the type of dialogue choices you make later, although they are all the same for the early stories. You will meet the local thug, Jason Hightower, and you will go on various adventures with them in Night City, which is a dystopian metropolis in Northern California and has now become an independent country.
The climax of the adventure is the stealing of a valuable prototype biochip, which was damaged in the subsequent escape and you must insert it into your head to protect its data. It turns out that the soul of the former rock star became the terrorist Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves), believed to have been dead for half a century. Due to the influence of the environment, the soul of Silverhand begins to rewrite your memory and essentially take over your body. At the same time, Silverhand becomes your partner, just like the voice on your head and the devil on your shoulders, pushing you to a choice of self-service. The quest for existence stimulates the narrative because there is a ticking bomb attached to it, although since Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world game, you can freely explore the world without worrying about collapse.
Night City is a typical melting pot. It has absorbed Western and Eastern design influences-and its population is equally diverse-to create its own world. It is foreseeable that it will light up a lot of neon lights at night, in line with the title of the game. In “Reeves”, an actor from “Cyberpunk 2077” participated in the three largest “Cyberpunk” movies of all time. The game also nodded his head for his work in “The Matrix” . When you are not busy avoiding becoming a Silverhand, the night market is full of things to do. You can find lost items or help steal things. You can become a killer, assist NCPD, clean up organized crime or help end an ongoing crime.
Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay
In terms of gameplay, you first choose one of the three methods in “Cyberpunk 2077”: crack (NetRunner), become a gadget and network software expert (Techie) or go all out (Solo). However, the game does not bind you to these categories, and when leveling up, you can mix them into two or more as needed. What you actually do include battles, timing puzzles, hacking into computers or corpses, and analyzing “BrainDance”, a virtual reality recording that captures audio, video, and thermal signals. Cyberpunk 2077 also offers various side events, including boxing, racing and shooting ranges.
The things you throw at your enemies in “Cyberpunk 2077” can also be used against you. This includes the ability to attack corpses that are regularly deployed by opponents. The most common strategy is to heat your body, which can cause you to lose your health. You can protect yourself by taking yourself offline, but this is an upgrade that you must upgrade to upgrade.
Of course, for “Cyberpunk 2077”, allowing your body to be hacked is a way to make you stand out in battle and make up for those who hunt you. However, even if you really want to hide, you cannot proceed smoothly. Technically speaking, Cyberpunk 2077 itself does not have a cover system. On the contrary, when you are in a crouching state, you cannot bend over, at least walk willingly, and then walk behind pillars, large crates and the like, which is essentially cover-up. But this is the problem: because there is no cover button, V does not dynamically adjust its crouching position based on its standing position. Therefore, you can only place it at the height of the object in front of you. If it is not high enough, it means that your forehead is exposed in the headshot.
There are other worries. The enemy feels like a bullet sponge. Even opponents without armor will miraculously stand up after bringing a bullet to the chest at close range. Incognito feels a bit unbelievable because the enemy will spot you-or part of you-but won’t even try to check what they just saw. In addition, the dialog tree options seem to be independent of each other. In many cases, a non-player character (NPC) is talking about something similar to what we first discussed, even though it is not. Speaking of NPCs, they are very repetitive. The same NPC model traverses me twice in 10 seconds, and the other one keeps running in a loop. Two different NPCs behave exactly the same in the same position.
Finally, there are too many loot in “Cyberpunk 2077”, which does not sound like a valid complaint, but there are actually two reasons. First of all, the shuttle system itself is a mess. It requires you to be very accurate and directly view what I want to throw to the controller. Sometimes, items or entities are placed in such a way that they cannot even be accessed. Even with loot, Cyberpunk 2077 will not automatically equip the best things (there are 12 categories to choose from), nor will it discard useless items. There is also no way to discard items in bulk, you have to do it manually. You can break down the loot that does not require parts or sell it for cash (EuroDollars are called EuroDollars). And because there are so many trophies, inventory management itself is an activity that takes up too much of your time.
There is nothing special about any of the features provided by Cyberpunk 2077. There is nothing particularly worthy of hype and attention in its direction. But what makes it even more disappointing is the poor packaging it provides. PlayStation4 and its counterpart Xbox One have sold more than 160 million units so far. Some gamers who pre-order may use PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, but many of them have the basic version. Although the release date has been delayed, the performance of the current console is so poor that it is completely unacceptable. It turns out that CD Projekt Red is eager to release. This disaster will not make any soul pay the full price. At least until the developer proves that it has fixed all the problems.
The era of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has arrived, but Cyberpunk 2077 currently runs on those next-generation platforms through backward compatibility. The real next-generation update will have to wait until sometime in 2021. This means that CD Projekt Red has developed a game for three platforms, and as long as you have the hardware, it can run at an acceptable level on one platform (PC). That’s ridiculous.
