Continental Reinsurance Holdings, the African reinsurance group with operations in more than 50 countries, has officially moved its group holding company from Mauritius to the Republic of Botswana.
The move, which follows the fulfillment of all regulatory, statutory and logistical obligations, marks an important milestone in the group’s expansion plans and underlines Botswana’s position as a stable and well-regulated financial services centre.

As it prepares for further expansion, Botswana was chosen as the base for the holding’s operations due to its stable governance, forward-thinking financial reforms and dedication to continued economic growth.
The new business of the group holding company will operate independently from the group’s existing Botswana subsidiary, which has been servicing Gaborone for 11 years and continues to meet the needs of its expanding customer base. The subsidiary is part of the group’s network of more than 1,000 cedants and brokers across Africa.
Continental Re provides comprehensive risk management solutions to insurance companies, combining regional expertise with local knowledge to promote the development and stability of African insurance markets.
The relocation highlights Botswana’s growing attractiveness as a center for multinational financial services and reinforces its reputation as a stable, well-governed economy. For Continental Re, the move represents the beginning of a new phase centered on growth, collaboration and continued investment in the region.
Lawrence Mutsuunge Nazare, Managing Director of Continental Re Holdings, said: “This move reflects our strong commitment to Africa and our belief that Botswana offers a uniquely conducive environment for long-term investment. The country’s stability, institutional maturity and progressive reforms provide us with the foundation we need as a pan-African reinsurer with global ambitions.”
“Botswana and the culture and ‘botho’ of doing business in Botswana are our inspiration. Indeed, Botswana reflects the values we embody: conduct with integrity, passion for our mission, collaboration rooted in mutual respect, responsiveness to changing needs and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”
