According to a new report, Apple Music will soon receive a HiFi music streaming layer, which will include support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio and “lossless” audio. The report said that Apple Music’s new update will debut on iOS 14.6, which is currently in Beta testing. Another report stated that Apple Music HiFi support will be announced along with the third-generation AirPods in the “coming weeks.” It is also speculated that the new announcement may be held at WWDC 2021, which is scheduled to be held in June.

A report from 9to5Mac stated that Apple is working on launching a HiFi program for Apple Music, which may introduce subscribers in the iOS 14.6 release. The publication stated that it had found the new code added to the Apple Music app in the first version of iOS 14.6, which specifically mentioned “Dolby Atmos”, “Dolby Audio” and “Lossless”. So far, Apple does not support Dolby, only its internal HiFi audio codec ALAC.

HiFi files have less audio compression, so you can output better sound quality. Spotify recently announced that it will also enter high-quality audio streaming via Spotify HiFi. It is speculated that Spotify will price the Spotify HiFi plan higher than the price of its existing subscription.

The music website Hits Daily Double quoted sources as saying that Apple will introduce HiFi streaming support for Apple Music and the third-generation AirPods in the next few weeks. But this is contrary to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s statement that the new AirPods may be launched in the third quarter of 2021.

The report also claims that Apple may provide HiFi audio streaming support on Apple Music without increasing its subscription fee. The subscription fee for a single level in the US and Rs starts at $9.99 per month. India is 99.
