Amiga Specialty launches in Hong Kong

Amiga Specialty is an independent international general agent (MGA) that has begun trading in Hong Kong after successfully obtaining a license from the Hong Kong Insurance Authority.

Led by Ralph Sherbahn, Managing Director of Financial Lines (Asia Pacific), the Hong Kong center will form the basis of Amiga’s regional ambitions for Financial Lines transactions, including cyber, criminal, D&O, professional liability and transaction-related insurance.

To commence trading, MGA has entered into a binder agreement with XL Insurance Company SE.

The move is the first foundation for the specialist Managing General Agent (MGA) Asia Pacific business, following the launch of the Amiga in Europe in summer 2025.

Adam Kembrooke, CEO and Founder of Amiga, commented: “Receiving regulatory approval is a huge milestone for our Asia Pacific business and I am delighted that we have received trading permission from the stringent Hong Kong regulators. This marks the latest step in Amiga’s global business growth and development.”

Sherbahn commented: “The real work begins now. I can’t wait to deliver Amiga products to the Asian market. We already have the ability to focus on a broad range of Financial Lines products, but have a direct perspective within their areas of expertise to develop new innovative products in a rapidly evolving technology and financial services focused economy.”

During this initial phase, MGA will focus primarily on North Asia before expanding into other regions and other products in Asia Pacific.

Sherbahn added: “We look forward to developing partnerships and growing the team in Hong Kong. The financial circuit in Asia is a huge opportunity and Amiga is well-positioned to capitalize on it.”

The name Amiga, which means friend in Latin, demonstrates the company’s commitment as a technology-first MGA with artificial intelligence (AI) embedded into the brand.

Sherbahn explained that by embedding intelligent automation and orchestration into the insurance value chain, amiga aims to deliver real-time decision-making that is difficult to match by traditional players.

He continued: “We are fortunate to be launching products at such a time of fundamental transformation and excited to take advantage of the flexibility and agility these new technologies offer MGAs like the Amiga.”
