Alchemy & Buckhill deliver modern and data-first digital framework for Santam’s Lloyd’s market entry

Lloyd’s of Santam Syndicate 1918 now benefits from a new policy administration system (PAS) and digital operating platform.

The rapid implementation, completed in three months, was made possible through a partnership between Santam, a major South African insurance company, and technology partners Alchemy Technology Services and Buckhill.

The platform is powered by Buckhill’s C2MS® technology and can be quickly configured to support accelerator products developed in partnership with Santam.

The platform was approved late last year, supported by a trusted network of specialist insurance technology partners.

This timely approval was obtained ahead of Santam Syndicate 1918’s January 1, 2026 commencement of construction. The project was completed within three months and within the allocated budget.

Alchemy serves as a systems integrator, providing project governance and coordinating delivery activities with Buckhill and other ecosystem technology partners.

Buckhill deployed and configured a fully compliant platform to support Santam’s open marketplace, alliance and slipline businesses from day one.

Supporting Santam’s international growth, a digital and data-first approach contributes to the company’s global diversification strategy, allowing the group to enter new markets, expand its specialty insurance products and build a scalable, efficient operating model for its international expansion.

Amechi Peirce-Howe, Global Specialty Markets Director at Alchemy, said: “Providing Santam with a fully functional new entrant Lloyd’s PAS and digital operations platform within three months demonstrates what can be achieved when you combine expertise with the right technology partner.

“This platform proves that modern, data-first alternatives to legacy systems are achievable and repeatable. Santam’s vision and support sets a new benchmark for rapid and confident setup of syndicates.”

Christopher Naidoo, COO of Santam Syndicate 1918, commented: “The approval of Syndicate 1918 and the rapid delivery of this advanced ecosystem sets the stage for us to confidently expand our international diversification goals.

“Working with Alchemy, Buckhill and their integrated joint partners is fully aligned with our ambition to build a modern, scalable and globally connected Lloyds Group. This is a transformational milestone for our business.”

At the heart of the platform is Buckhill’s C2MS®, a modern, configurable cloud-based PAS designed for carriers, MGAs and London market operations.

Alchemy played a vital role in selecting key specialist technology partners, while Buckhill integrated these components into a unified ecosystem, specifically tailored to meet Lloyd’s requirements.

The platform will begin operations on January 1, 2026 and is designed to provide a repeatable framework for future new entrants to the Loyd’s market.

Stuart Buckell, CEO and founder of Buckhill, said: “C2MS® is designed to provide insurers with a modern, flexible, data-driven core system that can scale according to their ambitions. It forms the backbone of an approved platform, integrated with specialist partners and delivered collaboratively in such a short timeframe, underscoring the strength of our ecosystem-first approach and marking an important moment for the Lloyd’s market. This project demonstrates what can be achieved when the right technology and delivery expertise come together.”
