Africa Specialty Risks names Kotran as Head of Business Development, Middle East & Turkey

Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), the developing markets-focused reinsurance group, has appointed Joseph Kotran as head of business development for the Middle East and Türkiye.

In his new role, Kotran will lead business development initiatives across the region and work closely with Amit Khilosia to support the group underwriting team.

In addition, he will work with Zouheb Azam, Aurelien Sauty and other members of the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) team as ASR aims to become an increasingly sophisticated market across the region.

He will join the re/insurer’s expanding business development team as ASR continues to build a sustainable and robust underwriting pipeline and drive its strategic expansion into Africa and developing markets.

Kotran has more than two decades of senior reinsurance underwriting experience in the Middle East, most recently as Head of Treaty for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Turkey at Barents Re. In the past, he has held roles at Trust Re and Hannover Re.

The reinsurer commented on the appointment: “We are delighted that Joe is joining and look forward to the impact he will have in strengthening ASR’s business in the Middle East and Turkey.”
